Whats the best way without spending money to stream HD films from my laptop to the TV?

The majority are .mp4 or .MKV files. I currently stream through the xbox but it wont play these files.

Attempted a converter to convert from .MKV to ..AVI but was literally taking hours and only got to 10% before I cancelled it.

gotsent converts stuff quite quickly.

You'll need a wired network ideally to stream 1080p, can't really do it on wireless due to bandwidth.

However, I bought a wireless N router so I could stream 720p and that works perfectly fine using ps3mediaserver on the playstation. Was 40 quid with a wirless N usb stick for the pc upstairs, (the ps3 is wired to the router)

What tv do you have? Can you simply not connect the tv to the laptop VGA port?

PS3 FTW. Will have to get one after xmas, even if its only for the Blu-ray and GT5.

Xbox is wired to the router, could plug the laptop into the router via ethernet too if it struggles streaming.

I'll try gotsent and see how I get on converting for now.

Having the laptop wired you should be able to stream (720p at least) with no problems

Looks a mess, i prefer wireless

Plus it messes up the resolution/size of the screen on the laptop everytime I plug it into the TV using VGA and takes me ages sort it out after.
