i cant decide what to do, i currently have a 1.2 16v and wanting more power
ive toyed with the idea of both engines
but insurance haunts me and i think the 1.6 will be an easier conversion
but ive always wanted a redtop
what are peoples opinions, what would you do
this would be my daily driver aswell

If you cant afford insurance, go for the 1.6. Will be more reliable too.

If your gonna do an engine conversion then put a redtop in, if you want a 1.6 16v sell up and buy a 1.6 sport will be a lot easier and cheaper to insure than a converted 1.6

depends on the engine and who fits it, i had a redtop corsa and that was reliable.

I couldn't insure a redtop so I put a 1.6 in mine Don't regret it, plenty quick enough and lots of tuning options for them!
Also my 1.6 16v converted merit is cheaper for me to insure than a standard sport

Save a bit longer and go for the XE. You will soon want more power if you went for the 1.6. And yes, you can get upgrades, but it isn't cheap to make it as quick as an XE.

I'm sorry but i've had less bother with 20XE's than 16XE's and would have a 20 all day every day.

Done right a 2.0 will handle just as good as a 1.6, both can be equally reliable just depends if you get a good engine but you will get better MPG with a good 2.0, when I say good I mean service it before you put it in and keep on top of servicing it.
X20XEV is also a good conversion although not as powerful as the C20XE.

My 20XE handled no differently to what it did as a 16XE

Both of my XE's felt far more sure footed than my 1.6 Sport ever did.
