Ive now sold my Golf GTi as wanting something a bit more economical; looking for something medium size or even large if a nice car good deal.

Have found 307's within my budget (£2K - £3K) and looks quite nice; but dont really have much knowledge of them. This is the one i like the look of
307 on Autotrader

Any thoughts or things to look for; or any alternative ideas would be great

one of the older mechanics at my work has got one for a practical economical car for work n back besides his porsche, im assuming by saying the 110 bhp u mean the 1.6 ? which is what hes got, its amazing on fuel it does like 61 ish mpg all day long the 307s aint a bad family car IMO if ur not wanting a fast sports car just an eco practical car

I think my dads is that underpowerd, You have to give it stick to get going. Its like your doing 30 in 4th, and come to a slight hill/incline, you put ur foot down and it just groans. You have to downshift. I thought this is where diesels speciality.

I had the same engine in my 206 GTI good engine shame about the rest of the car!

I wouldn't get one as they all have Dpf's which are a nightmare!

I used to have a 1.6 16v petrol. Did 50k in it and only ever had an issue witht the rad spilting. I did hit a bird though which is what i think caused it.

Mum has a 2.0 HDI 90 BHP. It's not the fastest thing in the world but reliable enough. Hers is a 54 plate that's just hit 4k

Know Twiggy has massive issues with his although think he just got unlucky.

Passat is a bigger car going by the size of car he has asked about, sounds stupid but he might have liked the Golf

Other ones to look at is the Fabia tdi 130?

Bit far away for that one but will have a look whats available locally

The only reason i have been looking at golf size is we also have a BMW e46 tourning and passat is similar size so seems a bit silly; but am thinking they are better value for money. I dont really want to spend to much more money than £3K as want to upgrade the touring to an e90 later in the year

Nothing wrong with DPF's as long as your aware that they clog up if your using the car for just town driving etc. If you dont do decent runs avoid anything with a dpf.
