Right here goes..

At the moment i'm driving this....

1998 2.4 V6 petrol Audi A4 which i bought for £1200 in June. Since then i've got another job which is a 30 mile commute each day. Roughly does 100 miles to £20 and i do 6 days a week which is 180 miles a week which is near as dam it £40 a week with using it at night a bit. So £160 a month on fuel. Wife hates it and simply won't drive it.

Wife has a 2007 Micra CC with 20K on the clock and is mint...and she loves it

No we have a baby due in 3 weeks so we decided we needed a 'Family car' thinking Focus TDCi 5 door etc etc. We'd get maybe 5k trade in for the Micra and were going to get a decent ish car for that (i work at a big car dealer so can get a lot for the money if you get me)

BUT this got me thinking..Why bother getting rid of the Micra if the wife loves it and i won't be there in the week so she can just whack the baby in the front seat and off she goes. Then at weekends or at night times we can use mine for the space?

So i'm not thinking...i should have a decent car as i do the big mileage and we can both use it then at nights and weekends but the Micra stays. The main problem is not just the money for the 'New Car' as this can be sorted but WHAT CAR TO BUY

I need a car that has decent MPG maybe 400 miles to a £60 tank say on a run...is nice to look at and drive..must not be boring and costs approx 7-8K

Knowing my car history i'd get a belter of a Scooby for that but the MPG will be shit and it will only get worse as the prices hike Plus the insurance!

Then i noticed loads of the techs in work drive Octavia VRS's which can be nice but there not exactly economical and i may aswell just get another scooby and enjoy the 4wd and the car more but they will be cheaper to insure? I'd like a 5 door Golf GTI with DSG and 18" Monzas but again the MPG?

So then what about diesel? Fabia VRS again? What else is there for the price range that would excite me? Am i missing a car that would fit the bill? Also would i get 1K for mine if i sold it?

So bloody confused

Only 30 miles a day, you are still under national average mileage of 12k at 180 miles a week.

Is it not cheaper to keep the thirstier audi and run it into the ground then get another car? It will be comfy and quiet for the drive and safe for little un

focus st's won't get much over 20mpg mate. i used to get 30mpg on motorways driving normally, 35 driving like a granny doing 50 in 6th and 25 in the outside lane.

forget urban driving though, 16-18mpg.

seat leon cupra? nice motors and the 1.8t engines aren't that juicy compared to the newer hot hatches.
