We have a dehumidifer at the top of our stairs, its supposed to prevent condensation by circulating air from the loft space into the house (I think).

Went upstairs last night and it was bloody freezing, reached up and the dehumidifier is blowing freezing cold air into the house, more like air conditioning. Is this normal, if so I might nip up the loft tonight and see if I can turn it off and block it up till summer.

For it to work you have the get the area warm so the mositure becomes air born then as the warm passes though the dehumv it will collect the water vapour on the cold element in side, then put dry air out the front.

You dont really want to circulate air from the loft as this will contain small particals of glass fibre from the insutation.

Get a humdity meter (hygrometer) to test the back ground humidy in the areas a figure of about 45% is classed as a good backgorund level.

IF you drop the level too low, you will begin to have problems with wood, plaster etc.

Also a lower figure can impact on your health.
