Me and my mate were having a discussion about transmission losses last night and we came across something we didn't agree on...
Transmission losses - FWD & RWD
Am I right in thinking that a RWD will have lost more (%) bhp to the wheels than a front wheel drive due to the prop shaft?
Thanks.

maybe, but not by much.
We lose about 14% (going by RR) for both our 4wd cars.
10%-12% for FWD/RWD maybe.
You do hear some folk saying 25% for 4wd though, so i'd take anything with a pinch of salt

I've heard 25% on 4WD too.. However that does sound like a bit too much.

It varies from vehicle to vehicle Scot. Transmission efficiency, plus wear & tear play a big part.
Physics and common sense dictate that a RWD setup would in the main, lose a little more than a FWD setup.
