Is this really as bad as people say? Im only thinking about doing it, just as a temporary measure until i have enough money to get some proper lowering springs, whats the worst that could happen?

yes you can weaken the structure and also if they are progessively wound you alter the damping which can cause bottoming out, not too mention the risk of them falling out at the back/out of cups etc etc

Because there made to be and sit how they are? And cutting them changes poundage etc, plus they wouldn't sit right where there made to fit...

The fronts would sit fine if you cut it right tbh. Standard springs are really soft though so would prob bottom out.

just cable tie some coils together on your spring so that it sits lower that way.

or drive around with springs compressors on

Can you not just buy some cheapo second hand ones off ebay?

I was looking on there last week for some for my brothers corsa, and found a pair of rear springs for £7, and a pair of fronts for £15. Probably not the best springs in the world and couldo with a tart up but would be fine for what you need?

Biggest problem is that they don't expand to the correct length when they're unloaded. So the risk of them displacing or falling out is increased.

There's also a bit of physics that goes in to how effective they are at supporting the weight of your car. Obviously removing metal will affect those calculations.

As would altering the weight of your car of course, or other geometry.

Many unknowns, and springs are not expensive anyway. Save up.
