Took a detour on the way back from Lincoln when picking up my new Golf on Sunday, to visit Heathrow airport. After watching some arrivals we drove around and discovered that since my last visit BA have seemingly commandeered a hangar on the Eastern perimeter (location), here they are currently storing the last 757 taken out of service last October, in period 80s 'Negus & Negus' livery...
...but more excitingly is Concorde 'Alpha Bravo', the last remaining Concorde at Heathrow, which although quite sad to see being stored outdoors, is situated right next to a foot path in full view.
I know its quite sad but ive always liked aviation of all sorts, and have a weird fascination with Concorde. Such a shame none of them are airworthy anymore.

Technology going backwards, in the case of Concorde. Stupidly fast now we are going slower across the atlantic.

Branson has tried to buy Concorde more than once, BA/Airbus have never wanted to sell the fleet though and although Branson has appealed for government backing they sided with BA, id guess they have somewhat of a relationship since they are subsidised. Hes still passionate Concorde will fly again, BA are just arses really.

did you also know that when testing the BAC TSR, it was being escorted by a lightening, the lightening and the TSR hit reheat, and the TSR pulled away, and i mean literally just fucked off, this doesnt sound all that remarkable until you learn that the TSR was only using reheat on ONE of its engines, it was absolutely rapid

They were bitter than we got there first with commercial supersonic travel and I suspect that was one of the reasons why it was originally banned from JFK/NY. Wasn't until the dumb fucks realised that their own AF1 (Boeing 137?) was louder than they allowed it to land at JFK.
Still, I can't see it flying ever again certainly not commercially. Although I’ve heard they are making one air worthy for the Olympics.

There is a distinct disconnect between Beamont's writings and public statements and what he wrote in internal memos, but on this particular story I don't think he's guilty. It seems to have been introduced for the first time in "TSR2 - Phoenix or Folly" where it is described as "...Bee lit the afterburner on the port engine only, with Jimmy selecting reheat on both his Avons in the T-4. Much to his amazement XR219 just left the T-4 standing. This display of speed for such a large aircraft was quite outstanding and Jimmy calculated that 219 was doing about Mach 1.2 to his Mach 1.1."
As you can imagine a Lightning with both reheats plugged in is capable of substantially more than Mach 1.1; and the TSR2 only actually accelerated to Mach 1.12 on that occasion. The actual flight test report makes it clear that from Mach 1.00 in dry power and in a "slight descent", the TSR2 accelerated to Mach 1.12 with reheat on the port engine engaged; and "The chase aircraft confirmed passing the jump-up condition (mach 1), but had fallen behind during the transition and was not able to give a steady state speed check."
Not much of a basis for a "left a Lightning standing" story is it

It will never fly commerically again, most of the remaining fleet arent really in a state to be rescued any more. Its only rumoured there will be one at the olympics, I wouldnt say its likely.

yes i am arguing with him, the engines in the TSR were powerful as fuck, granted it was a large plane but it had high wing loading, and small wing area to reduce lift drag
