Who on here has owned one?
considering one as a weekend toy
What do I need to look for when buying?

As mike said rot will be the main problem, will be hard trying to find one thats clean and rust free.
Make sure all arch's, petrol cap section, battery tray & boot area is solid, these tend to be the main area where rust starts
They are slow as standard too.

my mate owned one for a while, until one day some friends opened the bonnet and told him it wasn't actually a turbo, just an xr2i with bodykit.
he never knew for about 2 months

rust will be your main things, as with any car that age.
And just check the usuall smoke on start up and when you boot it. They're easy/xheap engines to sort out. Good handling cars imo

Id say the opposite. If it has original wheels, it's more likely to be original spec, so its less likely to have been abused.
I wouldn't buy one, proper old hat now, similar money will get an early 172 which will be far better fun and probably more reliable tbh

never driven or even been in one but ive seen them go and tbh theyre not that quick from what ive seen. closest thing i can compare it to was my mates 1.4 punto gt3 which used to pull away from the one round my way. not that much quicker than a healthy 1.6 corsa sport imo

theyre slow as hell standard, but really cheap and easy to get good bhp gains out of. Can get 200bhp with a tidy budget.

Erst was t3, frst was t2.
I'd say the escort handles better but the fiesta is nicer to drive. Neither are great though, I used to want one but they're just not that good...

ive got a FRST, dont use her though she just sits in my garage and looks pretty.
shes the rare moondust silver and is minty mint no rust or anything, ive only used her for a few shows if that!
check the arches under the kit, rear turrets, sills and petrol cap. these are the main areas for rot! get your fingers in the arch under the kit and have a good feel as this is where they go most!
cracking little cars though that can be picked up for not alot of money now!!
edit* they also rot around the windscreen and around the sunroof, open the sunroof also and check in there as thats a common spot!
