I'm in the same boat, I can't insure a car in my own name! 4K for a 1.0 Corsa in my own name!
Put an experienced down as the main driver and you down as a 2nd driver.

've been driving 6 years and even when I first started (day before my 19th) I never had a quote over £900 fc. you need to shop around, also be aware that insurance has had a kick in the balls since the recesion and that. it does help if you have someone on your policy and your car has the likes of an alarm and is safely stored at night.

Can't see an XR2 being insurance friendly either, pretty sure prices have always been high for them?

Bell.co.uk put older more experienced people behind you and don't try and get a xri while you have 0ncb, I'm 18 0ncb and on a 1.4 16v gls it's £1300

My risk area is pretty high. I'm currently on my girlfriends dads policy for my vectra that's 98 a month but it will never drop unless I build my no clames. If I get the car I'm going to take 3rd party and our Lass on it's around 2.2k

is it really worth it
just get a smaller engined car, once you have 1ncb it drops loads, also third party isnt always cheapest, its always cheaper for me to get fully comp

Don't bother with fully comp right now.
I couldn't afford to insure my 1.0 12v FC @ 26!
3rd Party F&T is the way I'd go.

hhaa ye your not exactly helping yourself.
Tbh soem of the quotes peopel come up with on here im sure as alot of other know is twoddle.
Best thing to do is go get your yellow pages a few car mags and a quiet afternoon and call ALL or as many of them you can and compare.
When you get your cheapest couple play them off each other see if it works. Ok it might not but worth a go
your gna have to start with anothing below 1.4 tbh even then its gna be a stretch.

19year old. 0no claims and a 1.8. thats your problem right there. not alot you can do to bring it down. if you had pass plus that would help normally saves your about 500-600 quid but other than that you either get a smaller car or deeper pockets
