I couldn't see why the company could make a claim on the interest, would be interesting to find out!

he would have always had to repay it so probably done himself a huge favour in owning up

No way could the company claim any money he might of made on interest or investment

I think the company should give him a bonus for being so honest!

24 hours later I would of been living the good life on some remote Island!

most liekly zero as the majority of UK current accouitns no longer pay injterest

and as whitter45 said, the company can make no claim to the itnerest he may have earned as they paid him by mistake, he did not take the money by deceit

tbh whitter45s post FTW

Considering as I'm getting something gash like 0.5% on my ISA, absolutely fuck all if it was in his current account for a day or two.

Capita do this all the time, and people spend the money.

they then get phonecalls and letter/solicitors if it goes that far.

Majority pay something like £1-10 a month when they owe a good few hundred if not k's.

there are some very very odd rules regarding overpaid wages.

i inadvertantly overpaid someone £1,350 when i sued to do payroll and we had a nightmare gettign it back as the woman claimed to have legitimately assumed it was a bonus and made an overpayment to her mortgage, ie coudlnt get the money back. we eventually got it back via the princely sum of £13.50 per week

then she got made redundant and we claimed it all back

yes for small amounts you can arrange for payment over a period

However if it was 2m I would assume they would want it back in one go and the person would have been daft to spend even a tiny amount of the 2million as its clearly an error

oh yeah def, in this case, theres no way you coudl assume it was a mistake

the rules centre aroudn the legitimacy of the overpayment for one and seocndly whethere you still have the money... so the daft notion of spend the overpayment ASAP isnt necy so wrong. although spend it viapaypal to a mate or relatvie etc rather than down the bookies

What would happen if he'd bet the £2m on, say, Birmingham beating Arsenal yesterday, then won a shit load of money. I guess as long as he gives the £2m back he could keep the rest?

what would have happened if he had lost the money? although it is money is it still classed as stolen property? therefore retrievable? or would he just have to pay back 2 mill in installments?

In this hypothetical world we all live in they could have, however in reality I don't think anyone would dare touch it and tell their boss straight away ! Bit different if you are getting over paid £50 a month and not notice.

My current account is 0.24% annually. Based on that £10.51 a day after tax.

Not bad if he fobs them off for a week before doing the return transfer.

I'm getting 4percent interest on my current account, what would that work out on 2million for one day?
