IMO it is not a direct affect. Saying smoking it will give you brain damage is stupid. I belive it chages your state of mind ie Makes you more lathargic/lazy/shy, and as a result if you keep at it, it will eventually become the norm to have these characteristics. Thats when the problem starts, as you start to think differently and it will eventually take over.

I had to stop smoking grass because it was fucking up my head. I wasn't turning mental, but I was forgetting things at an alarming rate.

One time I was out with a load of mates, but i left them to go and meet someone else very quickly. By the time i went to go back and meet up with my mates I had totally forgotten where they were and where I had just been. I didn't even have any credit in my phone so I had to go home and phone one of them to find out where they were...

That was when I realised that my memory was fucked.

That was after about 5 years of smoking between of 5-10 joints a day. Plus numeroug bongs, buckets, rockets, waterfalls or blunts in between.
