i was thinking about if you return to your car parked up in town after a few hours, at night or something and having to sit and wait for it to defrost

So many cars get stolen this way. I can understand why you shouldnt leave your car on as its just common sense. Fining an even higher amount is something else that doesnt really benefit anyone apart from help fill the coffers.

What about me can i leave my car on when the steering wheel isnt attached (snap off boss) What about people with turbo timers....

If my dpf is in the middle of a regen it will essentially stay on (engine revs slightly off idle and all the fans go hell for leather, sounds like war is breaking out) for up to 45 minutes. Done it before when i've parked up at work and people have come to tell me i've left the engine running

turbo timers invalidate insurance anyhow so the car wouldnt be insured or legal with one on

focus did the same thing with the fans in summer. fans used to go mad for about 20 minutes and had all sorts of people come to tell me i've left my car running
