Got a (old) new car. Was a p/x.. B3 passat estate, 1.6td. I've driven motorway miles, around town. let it running for ages. and its doing about 140 miles to tenner? at 1.38/9 ... Any ideas what the mpg is on it? I did it online and came up with 83mpg.. which was a bit of a shock!

83mpg is a fantasy mate lol, its only a 1.6 pulling a very big car. 140mls to a tenner is pretty decent imo.

140 miles to a tenner at 1.38
7.19 litres
1.58 gallons
140/1.58 = 88.6mpg.
I would guess you're not doing 140 miles to a tenner.

My guess is there was still more fuel in, then you put in £10 and ran the cars tank to below what it was at origionally, no way could it get 88.6.

The only real way to tell is to brim it, then when you next fill up note down the miles you did, and brim it again. The number of litres you put in will be the number of litres used
