Tyre sizing confuses me, I know what all the numbers mean, just don't know how possible it is in the real world!

Can I run 225/50/17 tyres on wheels that would usually have 205/50/17 on them? Am I pushing my luck on that one?

Cheers,

Rich

I can't remember off the top of my head! I "think" they're 7 or 7.5

Using a tyre size calculator, it says I should keep within -/+ 2.5%, but the above change takes it to 3.14. I think I may have to admit defeat on this one and change wheels!

205 is 8" but they would mount on a 7 or 7.5.

225 technically needs wider but they would go on.

50 is the height of the sidewall as a percentage of the width so although they would mount on the wheel, they would also be higher.

If you only want to go wider and not higher you need a 45 profile.

Is buying different tyres not a cheaper option?

I'm pushing my luck running the wheels anyway I think with the overall weight / payload - I also don't think the above tyres will fit (hence my checking on here too)
