Thought i would ask you bunch of knowledgeable Gents what your advice would be on buying a surround sound system for my livingroom.

Never had one before, bit clueless as to specs of speakers and what quality they will be.
Not looking to spend a fortune and looking into buying second hand for now.

Came across this. Wondered what use lot thought?

Or better yet come up with any suggestions as to what i should be buying.
Need to be able to have it posted as i live in the middle of nowhere in the Scotland.

Just bought the bluray Band of Brothers boxset and want to get a half decent set up to plow through them!

Cheers lads!

I think I spent about £1000 on mine but i'm happy as a pig in shit with it.

To be honest, Creative are a very budget brand and you massively get what you pay for.

Onkyo do great surround systems at reasonable prices (when I say reasonable, it depends on your budget) To be fair though you cant go wrong with some of the LG/Samsung/Song surround systems though if your not an audiophile as such. My mums got a Sony 5.1 system built around a DVD player and it sounds the bollocks, I reckon it only cost £140 or something.

If you like Bluray, you probably want something with DTS mind you.

Something like the 1 you posted would be more suited for a PC, to listen to music and stuff. Would be better off getting a new setup with a built in amp with decent wattage to go straight into the blu-ray player you have

Get a similar Logitech system, they're amazing for the price.

Creative suck.

Coz you've already got a Bluray player, this Onkyo system would be perfect:
