Lets take nuclear weapons out of the equation for a second
Lets also say we pulled out all of our troops out of these god forsaken Arab countries and have them soley based in the UK.
What exactly do we have left in terms of numbers? Aircraft, ships, troops, anti aircraft defence of this Isle? If a lone Russian tried to strike at our radar bases are they equipped with anything SAM devices?
Or put it another way, if this country was under threat of invasion from Aliens what could we throw at them?

Can we fire will_doyle at them?
Irritating enough to bore the aliens into leaving our planet?

Will do they, you don't need massive armed forces anymore. You won't ever have two sides fighting in trenches, it's all about tactical strikes.
We took out an entire countries armed forces with the use of aircraft in a matter of days.
What I want to know is why the French have a bigger defence budget than us, when was the last time they done anything meaningful apart from build the Magniot line which the Germans proceeded to just go around the back of.

i spose its like playing civilisations, as soon as you can build tanks you stop producing men with bows & arrows
would take quite a lot of clique mobs to take down a tanks

I don't know why the French even have a navy, they had a sizeable one in WWII and refused to use it an we ended up having to sink the majority of them @ Mers-El-Kebir.

For such a small country having 233,860 troops and 191,300 reserves is pretty substantial.

if we get invaded by africa i would simply throw my electrical goods at them, this would distract them enough for me to make my getaway, while they decide amoungst them how to spend the white mans money in the most wasteful way possible.

we have more than you think to throw back
the RAF Regt are equiped with SAM to protect the air bases
of those air fields, a selection of these hold the QRF (Quick Reaction Force) which is on constant standby with Tornado F3 fighters and are airbourne within 2 minutes from the call to scramble iirc
we have a select number of RAF bases under USAAF and i cannot see why they would sit on their hands as it is in their interests to protect their airfields (Bombers have left RAF Lakenheath this week flying to Libya)
all the RAF Hawks (including the Red Arrows) are equiped to be air-to-air fighters following small modifications (less than 48 hours) as a last line defence after the Tornado F3 force.
the RAF have aroudnd 50k personnel, the Army 90-110k depending on the data you read, not sure about the Navy but i suspect 50K
there are goodness knows how many reservists that can be called up, and those who have retired from service but held on "standby" for just such a situation when the brown starts hitting the fan they can be called back into uniform.
I cannot talk for Army or Navy forces but in terms of air power we have enough to hold of any invasion until the Army and Navy are up to speed

We've just supplied the French Navy with 5 Submarine Pilot boats at a cost of approximately £3million. We're one fo the three UK enabled MoD suppliers of Millitary RIBs and we haven't supplied to them in 5years+, all we see is service work of older craft.
Aside from the Offshore Raiding Craft (ORCs), I can't really think of any newly developed small craft in the UK military
