I think it's shocking she got away with it.
House wasn't worth 30k let alone 90.
Must have cost an absolute fortune to go through court and I bet she paid not one penny.

The authority got a compulsory purchase order for the flat last September. But Margaret insists she's never had a fair hearing - and was unhappy with repeated compensation offers made to her family.
An initial settlement of £30,000 was upped to £90,000 in January. But the Jaconellis, who owned their home outright, said even the top figure would not allow them to live mortgage-free as they do now.

Last night council bosses said they are "pleased the eviction has been completed". A spokesman said: "An offer of new housing is still available to Mrs Jaconelli."

Pretty shit that someone can be evicted like that from a property they own outright, I don't see how it's legal.
But, they did give them 90 grand!

Comes with staying in a slum, somebody will want to build a motorway or a car park over it at some point.

She's been given more money than she would have ever had her whole life to move out of the dump, not exactly torture is it.

Tbh they dont look like they give a fuck about money. They look more like a couple that would rather stay in a bought house theye lived in for years watching the soaps.

It's not eviction. It's a CPO and it has to happen to allow for urban regeneration, otherwise everywhere would be a shithole crack den like her house was.

They look like tramps who don't have any, which is different from not caring about it.

I doubt they have nothing. Considering they have bought their house suggests this.
They look like they dont care because they have their home, they dont need to worry about rent and im sure if they didnt like living there they would be long gone years ago.

They lived in a council house they bought and were mortage free iirc, you'd be pissed off being kicked out of your house of 35 years with 90k, what can 90k get you these days?fuck all. Especially if you was mortage free in your previous property.

Theyre also not exactly a young couple so moving out a house youve been in for 35 years must mean a lot.
Unless youre john.

It's the fact they had no choice, it was their house, owned by them and no one else, although as said it wasa previous council house. That was their point. I feel sorry for them, it must be an awfull thing to go through. Regardless of how they look, dress, how much cash they have they are still human beings. They should have been treated with more respect. Instead they were forced out of their home.

They've been there for 35 years and would have got it at a massively discounted price, it would have cost pennies.
You could argue about the home of 35 years bit and it being harsh.
They've been more than adequately rewarded though and can buy something considerably better and still be mortgage free, whether she says she can or not.
Everyone else also thought they were getting a good deal for 30k, which shows that even all these neighbours she's lived with for 35 years wanted out and 1/3 of the money was enough.

CPO= Compulsory Purchase Order.
Basically if the government want to build on your land, they issue these.
