I've just bought one and apparently it needs plates welding in too. Is this normal? Ideally I'd like a cage that requires no welding at all as I can't weld. It's for a ph1 Clio if anyone has any experience with them

You will still need strengthening plates where the feet of the cage will sit

most bolt ins i've seen need boxes welded in for the feet

There's about 6 plates supplies with it. Guess that's what they are for. Any ideas who in the south east to get to do it?

My OMP 10 point bolt in cage needed plates and boxes welded in for the feet.

Plates or box sections for the feet are the norm, I wouldn't fit one without as the standard thickness floor-pan isn't strong enough for the bolt loadings.

Whoever does it, make a point of saying it should only take them half an hour to check they correct you (it'll need measuring up, the paint and underseal stripping off, welding done, rust inhibitor applied etc )

An MOT welder may not be up to the task, you want someone with experience. Good rollcage can save your life, a poor one or poorly fitted one can end it.

Get new plates cut and sandwich the floor pan between two identical size plates.

My plates aren't welded in,

The cage in my old Pulsar wasn't welded in either.

Was the same as above with a 2 big bolts going through.

some need welding in and some dont it depends on the type of cage
