I know a few people on here have or are doing Law Degrees around the country, I always considered doing Law before doing what I do now However, I'm considering my options for the future and wanted people's (who are currently or just finished studying Law) opinion.
Staffordshire Uni do a 2 Year fast track degree and I've been there, done that with the whole University thing so not interested in living the Student life again particularly. Does anyone know much about that?
Is the LPC 1 year after the degree, followed by 2 years articles?

I'm keep thinking about going back to do Motorsport Engineering but it will never happen.
If I could time machine it back to 1999, i'd have chosen that instead of Hotel Management. Not actually sure Motorsport Engineering degrees existed back then tho.

Girlf is studying law at Uni, and its a hell of a lot of hard work, studying a hell of a lot and usually down the library until silly o'clock in the mornings too.
Does seem like a very interesting subject though.

I'm not fussed about hard work per se, My course was bloody difficult and a huge amount of work for 4 years but IMO it was the biggest mistake I ever made; wish I'd done something different and I'm 28 this year so if I'm going to change, I need to look at it this year or next really

Are you sure you hate boats? I went through a stage about 4 years ago where I hated the industry that I'm in, was going to jack it all in and try something else but ended up moving companies and now I like it again. It wasn't the industry, it was working for the company I was at the time that I hated!

A friend of mine is going back to uni to do dentistry. He's saving his money this year so that he doesn't have to fuck around too much with 'being a student'. Shouldn't be all that bad and it'll be worth it in the end.

It can only make a LOT of money if I get out of the UK which I'm not in a position nor particularly interested in doing. I feel a bit stuck as without moving from where I am now, I have little choice other than to work at the firm I'm at and I just don't like the way things are run or the archaic principals; the whole, "we've always done it that way" fucks me off! They refuse to move with the times. Its not just the firm though, boat trials and testing aside, I just don't enjoy the side I'm involved with and its knocked the motivation right out of me which isn't the kind of person I am

I completley changed careers in October and have had to re-train etc. (although its still linked with my previous background)
Best decision I ever made.

Defo alot of work, massive books and writers who want to use archaic language, so it makes no sense at all.
I am currently doing Law at Uni, and the process after completing your degree is to try and get a training contract (2 year training in a firm, move through 4 different departments). I say get a training contract is because you have to do a Legal Practice Course (LPC) and if you have a training contract the firm usually pay for it. Otherwise its approximately £15,000 for a year.
Doing a 2 year course would probably miss out the 1st year as such and go into your proper degree. This is fine if you have done law before as this usually brings you up speed with the different terminology and general understanding of things.
Training Contracts are not easy to get as you can imagine, I think 1:10, 1 Contract and 10 people applying. So there is no guarantee of getting a training contract.

That was kind of my idea too, spend this year/next year getting my house finished and saving up to go back. I'll also continue to work through uni if I went, as I did first time round and not take out a Student loan or extra debt

I did that. Lasted a Year. M-sport engineering is nothing like what you think it'll be.

Can't you do a 1 year law conversion course? The only pre-requisite is that you have an undergraduate degree of some kind.

I had a look at these but it seemed to narrow down future practicing potential; i.e. only ever practice in something which your specialism might be relavant too. I'll look into it,
I'm in a bit of a fortunate position as My Mum is a solicitor and runs her own practice and My missus finished her Law degree last year so from a resources point of view I'd be well in

I know a guy who did it. Its hard graft and hard to get decent placements i've heard?
There was that guy on here who was doing it? He had a really tidy goldish coloured corsa too? What was his name? He got a placement with a Caterham team didn't he?

You have to do an LPC after the degree and even after that you aren't gaurenteed a training contract. Also it depends on the area of Law. My girlfriend is in Family law and there is hardly any money in it at the min with the legal aid situation, people in her firm on a training contract are on about 19k in their first year (something silly like that) Not a lot if you have a 9k+ debt over you from the LPC. Also it is time limited so you need to do your LPC in a certain time after you finish your degree (not sure what happens in regards to doing it later if you require).

as already stated, unless you can get a training contract you are buggered. Did the degree, couldn't get a training contract or afford 10k for LPC so it has got me nowhere and that was 3 years ago i graduated
