Lets say one day, you had a nova and you accidentally cut the roof off with an air saw and then decided to drive it around for a little bit before you scrapped it?
How legal is this? it has tax and MOT and insurance.
EDIt: I personally think it is illegal btw.

Surely it's not legal as it has an mot but is not actually road worthy as it's highly likely to fold in the middle as the roof is structural. Probably be a laugh though

Probably wouldn't have insurance after they cancelled it on you.
Mustn't have sharp edges.
Other than that I see no real issue, perhaps void type approval as well as there's a major structural modification, although there's nothing to stop you making the modification, only that the structure is sound afterwards. Which on a 2 door car it probably would be.

I'll tell him to keep it of road then, i'm going to place a bet that it i will fold in the middle with no roof.

Theres nothing to stop you from doing it, how ever you should be informing your insurance company of the 'modification'.. Plus If it does make the vehicle weak and therefore unsafe it will be an issue.
My mate cut the roof off a Passat estate (left the front bit on) and drove around like it for weeks last summer.

It won't snap straight in half, just don't go over any speed ramps too fast

Surely it's be illegal since it's illegal to repair the roof on a car let alone drive about with it chopped off?

You would need to sort something for the seatbelts too, as the top point will be on the b pillar?

I was always under the belief that if there is damage to pillars/ hole in the roof it makes the car at least a CAT B. Thought that was the whole point in them punching holes in the roofs of the scrappage scheme cars.

Tack the doors shut, cut the roof off and bodge the seatbelts in a bit further down, Thats the only way I can see of doing it!

TBH the roof skin is possibly the thinnest piece of metal on a car, and anywhere thats damaged can be repaired.

Just say someone stole it if the police stop you. Tell them you didnt notice because you had the cold air heaters on full pelt.
