Go for a 1.8 16v on TB's. I'm on the hunt for a early Vectra SRi which had 1.8 16v and think it was 120 BHP.

The 1.8 16v is the last engine i'd buy for D4. Would rather have a 1.4 on TB or even a 2.0litre 8v than the 1.8.

Terrible lump.

The 1.8 16v engine is a good route to take guys, its based on the 1.6 16v so will drop in Ok , i am useing a 1.6 16v on 45's,but do fancy a 1.8 bored out to 1.9 with 45's on,lighter than the 2.0 16v so u get the power and handling!

Sorry, easier for me to sell it in one go as a complete unit.

Any serious offers?

230corsa, nope, sorry, the 1.8 has around 125bhp. Putting throttle bodies even on the 2.0litre Ecotec only increases it from 136bhp to about 170bhp, so TB on the 1.8 isn't going to get even that much.

Ok i have rallyied a Corsa 2.0 16v for five yrs,the 2.0 16v is a very heavy engine, the 1.6/1.8 is a much lighter engine, not as much power but my new 1.6 corsa will be as quick as my old 2.0, and the reason is,it will corner quicker,it will be lighter and all the drive train is lighter,eg shafts box flywheel etc so it will pick up quicker due to less rotating mass, so i only speak from experience and have results to prove it.

The 1.8 is the same weight as a 2.0 the only difference is in the engine internals
and less power with the 1.8 so its a crap engine for a conversion

Redtop 2.0litre is yeah. Ecotec lump isn't. As said, its the same as the 1.8 bar a few internal mods. The 1.8 16v n 2litre Eco's were the worst engine vauxhall made hence why they dont make them anymore (well the 2.0litre anyway, 1.8 is still made).

1.6 16v and 1.6 16v are totally different engines. You can't have a "new" 1.6 16v unless u bought the engine from Vauxhall as they dont make them now.

Only way u can make a 1.6 16v as fast as a 2.0litre is to spend a fair bit of cash on it. Even Andy H's car is faster than a 2.0litre as prooved at my Corsa Vs Saxo day at Brunters!

James, best you just ring your insurance company and ask mate.

Conversion cost, dunno, prob around £600 -£1000 odd inc engine price if u know someone who could do it.
PS, im in North West Kent
Engine will still be in the car at Bluewater meet.

Pics (2001, same stuff pretty much).
