My laptop has just decided to snap the chassis around the screen from the hinge, so when u move it, it now flops all over the place.
I think its about time we got a new one, ill clean this up, and use it in the office for all my work stuff, and keep the new one purely for browsing etc.
It will get used constantly, but doesnt need to be overly powerful, as itll just be facebook etc.
What makes should i look out for, and what should i avoid these days.

Avoid Dell and Sony Vaio.
I've just got a Lenovo for work but not cheap.
HP or Toshiba stuff is good.

What's wrong with dell?
Got one here, 5 years old and still going strong apart from the usual issue of the hinges loosening slightly (takes 5mins and a screwdriver to fix)
Personally i'd look at spending another £50 or so and getting something with a newer CPU than what Daniel posted, can pick up an HP Intel i3 for around £360.

Aviod the two market leaders of laptops?!? That's a bit silly.
Dell technical support is pretty good (once you get past the india call centre) and I've never had any problems with Sonys apart from batteries.
HP and Toshiba technical support is non exisitant and they are arseholes to take apart and source parts!

I mean, there's nothing wrong with it, but.. that processor is quite old tech now (at least it's not a Celeron!) and like I say, HP support not good!
On the other hand, they wouldn't have sold in the billions if they wern't okay, seems a good price for the technology

Spend £360/370 and get an Intel i3 processor laptop - was an HP on eBuyer for £369, probably could get it a bit cheaper if you shop around.

HP are piss easy to take apart and 24hr on all parts with our service agreement!
Personal preference but our quite large organisation only uses HP or Toshiba laptops at this present moment!

Sounds like you're experience is enterprise rather than consumer, you certainly wouldn't get a replacement part for your HP laptop that you bought in Tesco's in 24hrs

We have a little net book but the screen is way to small. Think it's 7inch or something, and with it sat on your lap it's to small.
Having been out today, we now torn between a laptop, a touchscreen acer thing, or an iPad.
To be honest we can still use the laptop it's just no good for portable use as screen won't move. So going to put it in the office and use it on the tv in their.
What's an iPad like? We both have iPhones and love them.

Fuck a duck i am stressing out.
I cannot make my fucking mind up and im getting wound up.
A decent laptop, an ipad 2, or a proper pc/touchscreen pc.
Im thinking an ipad 2 is cool as fook, and would be nice, but its a bit lacking in what we can do on a laptop.
A touch screen pc, could be wall mounted in the kitchen, and used as a tv as well. But this is unsociable and one of us will always be in the other room.
Looking like a laptop its gotta be.
Why is this so stressful!!!!

Touchscreen pc's are a bitch to get repaired, my friend has got one and it was an arsehole of a job to change the graphics card. But it's all down to personal preference at the end of the day, like i siad I've got a Vaio but am wanting a netbook, so probably be up for sale before soon if so I'll let you know.
