Right, looking to get a runaround/2nd car just to literally go about 6 miles a day to work/gym as dont like using the Scoob for short runs.

Im looking to spend between £1500 and £2000. (previously dropped budget from 3k as cant justify it for the little use it will get)

I have seen an X plate Punto HGT with 56k, FSH (just had waterpump and cambelt), years MOT from Dealer for £1495

Also Seen an X Plate Fiesta Zetec-S in Mint condition, 66k, full MOT, FSH, recent cambelt, clutch, suspension bushes all MOT`s to prove mileage, private sale at £1895

Both are literally 10 mins from my House and will probably go for one or the other this Week.

Questions :

- Anyone owned either of these and do you have any comments good or bad for either?
- What to look out for on them?

Not interested in modding it etc or interwebz warrior comments it will literally be a runaround.

Thanks.

I didn't mind the ZetecS I shared with my ex; nippy enough for a second car. Used to drink oil and eat its tyres but we didn't have too many major faults with it. Usual rust issues on the rear arches and coils were repalced a couple of times but no big bills tbh

it takes 1h45 in the car? Do it in half on a bike. I don't have shower at work, just cycle in different clothes. Anyway I won't hijack the thread

the zetec s' are nice motors. being a ford, parts are cheap should it go wrong but they are quite reliable.

just don't smash the front fogs (or take them out and sell them for a bit).

quick enough also.

Cheers Ben, Ive seen a lot of tatty ones on Ebay recently and this one does look to be a Minter, hence the premium on the Price. May go and look at it this Evening, last owner has had it last 5 years.

Could really do with some info on the Punto, I know sod all about them.

Seems a lot of car for the Money, plus has dealer warranty. Depends on how thristy that 1.8 is, i know the chassis wont be as good as the Fiesta but meh for the purpose.

Just found this on Fiat Forums :

Roof rails - rust
Sills - rust
Oil - if it's low walk away it's a time bomb
Ask what oil it uses - if they don't know walk away
Has the variator been done? If not within the last 3 years haggle and do it asap.
Has the water pump been done? If not within the last 3 years haggle and do it asap.
Has the belt been done? If not within the last 3 years haggle and do it asap.
Gearbox - Does it crunch at high revs? If so, synchro is on it's way and it's new box time
Water temp - does it sit at 1/2. If not new thermostat time. Haggle.
Sat nav - does it work? Is the screen damaged? They always break.
Cd changer - they always break.
Backbox - rust. If it's rusty and/or has a hole replacements are ~£200!

Completely forgot about that one - front fogs are a complete nightmare if the lens smashes. We never got hold of one in 3 years of trying

Please elaborate?

1495 with a years warranty is tempting.

The zetec is is 350 more with no warranty (private sale).
