watching essex jungle lastnight and it reminded me i've always wanted a snake or lizard, some kind of reptile.
what do people keep on here? i know i've seen some bearded dragons before.
always thought i wanted a lizard but are snakes better to handle etc?
Got rid of my fish after nearly 10years and fancy something else

i have a couple of musk turtles great feature for the house easy to obtain and no smell at all
also after a scorpion for the study/spare room

Got a bearded lizard, he's easy to look after, doesn't need much effort at all, wasn't too much to get everything together either, bought it all second hand off a lizard forum 
Is fine to handle, although don't think he really likes it, he doesn't fight or anything

ive got a bearded dragon, ive had her about 11 years now. there a great lizard to start off with, or a gecko is very easy to look after but a bit boring.

I've had all sorts of lizards, heres my thoughts;
Leopard Geckos
A great first Lizard, easy to look after, can have more than one together, eats crickets and locusts, mealworms etc.
Not terribly exciting, slightly nocturnal.
Easy to handle, tame, dont bite.
Quite clean in general and dont smell.
Bearded Dragons:
Much more exciting than geckos.
Baby Dragons are very cute, but grow very fast.
Eat just about anything (crickets, locust, mealworms) as well as green salads.
When they get to adult size, their excriment is quite large and very smelly, you cant leave it in there or it'll stink your room out.
Very easy to handle although their nails can get sharp when their older.
Beardys are very relaxed, will live with one another and dont mind sharing with other similar minded lizards (although not recommended).
Chamelons
We've had a few chamelons in the past.
'Panthers' and Yemens are the most common, however I recommend a Nosey Be.
Chamelons are very scared and dont like to be handled. If you get one from a young age their easy to teach, however they do hiss at you when you go to pick them up.
I've had a few nips from them (never drawn blood), but you need to keep handling them and it will get better.
Nosey Be's tend to be more tame than Panthers.
They're a bit more difficult to look after as they need regular misting with water bottles and cannot be stressed.
They dont change colour very often, only when your pissing them off.
I would probably get a male as women tend to be alot of hassle (having to give them sand buckets to lay unfertalised eggs. Cham's also need to live alone.
They are generally more cleaner and dont smell.
If I had to have another reptile, id pick another Chamelon.
I have some photos of my old setups at home, i'll post them when I get back.

Imo get a parrot or something that doesnt just sit and look at the light/heat source all day and night.

I'm not sure a parrot is the greatest example of an active creature to compare against snakes and Lizards

But they are more on going things you can do with a parrot in terms of training and teaching it to speak.
Buy a lizard or snake and once you have set the tank up theres nothing else to do apart from feed it. Give it a week and youll be bored. May aswell just buy the tank and stick a rubber toy which looks like a reptile in there.

I've always had a liking for bearded dragons. 
Some of the stuff in that programme was rediculous.
