If she has Blackberry Internet Services (BIS) as an upgrade on her SIM yeh. Usually costs about £5 p/m

Do they sell them to you without BIS? yeah I get nowhere near my limit for internet.

Up until recently they definitely were.

Plus some people pick up BB's used on eBay etc so then your SIM wouldn't have it

Installing another browser, like Opera Mini, and changing the TCP settings (APN etc) gets around the lack of BIS for browsing. Obviously the standard BB browser, BBM and push features won't work without BIS.

Slightly off topic, anyone know if you can use BES without the need of BIS/BB Bolt-on? I'm guessing you can't....

I dont think so no. BBs need to be provisioned on certain tariffs to work correctly iirc
