Saw an advert earlier in local shopping centre for a company working alongside Seat offering driving lessons to those aged 11-17. Now obviously this can't be on public roads, in which case yes it'll give them the feel of the car, but surely no perception of real driving. Is it a good idea encouraging people to be able to pass their tests earlier as they turn 17, or will it encourage more people to drive illegally, underage with no insurance etc as they have the ability to? Also, would you say 11 is too young to be starting out? Anyone seen this before? Discuss...

I drove a car in a school when I was about 12. Was one of the attractions at a summer fete. I think BSM ran it. Was a good bit of fun.

Its not exactly rocket science to know how to drive during lessons so would be the same for under 17s, I had my first taste of driving aged 13 on private land obviously, Didn't affect how I drove when 17 etc, And didn't change my mind about driving illegally.
If somebody wants to drive illegally underage, they will.

this wasn't a one off thing, it's advertised like normal lessons, 10% off if you block book etc....

Did it when I was 15. Hill starts , driving around cones , general stuff you get in a lesson tbh.
Did a few after that as well , helped with passing my test 4 lessons and passed 1st time

If I had the opportunity of driving before I was 17, I would of passed much sooner. I already knew all the rules of the road, and how to use the roads, so for me it was just the physical driving part and manoeuvres. Which could all be done on private land

I drove around the school car park when I was 15 as a deal with a driving school and the school. It was just driving round cones on the biting point at 5mph.

Mine was rubbish, like I said all you did was drive round cones on the biting point, never used the accelerator and never any other gear, it was £10 for 2 hours every week and I just stopped going.

I did one of these when I was about 14 at Rockingham in a Mini Was awesome tbh! Got to drive round all the private roads in traffic etc so you felt like you were out on the proper road.
