I'm selling my lens and somebody has offered to pay me via paypal gift.

I don't use paypal that often and I'm not sure how long it would take for the money to actually appear in my account.

Do any of you know?

if they send it as a gift, they're not covered either if anything goes wrong. and there are no charges to anyone if its a gift payment

Gift's are charged unless you have the money already in your paypal account.

Really? Usually it's the receiver that gets charged isn't it? Plus I did think the gift charges were waivered too, hence the no protection.

Last time I done it I'm sure it had an option of who paid fee's.

The money in account thing I've never actually done either, I think I remember seeing it at the payment screen.

I got the money tranfered directly into my paypal account. It was the full amount too, so unless the sender payed the fees then i guess there weren't any.

I bought another lens, so as soon as I had the money in my paypal I sent that as a gift, which of course was fee free.

I transfered the remaining balance into my bank which should be there by the 18th, so only 3 working days.

Why did you send as a gift? No protection. It's always fee free for the sender.

Yeah, but if the person I sent the money to received a fee then he wouldn't have received the whole amount we agreed to in the sale.

I was dealing with a long term member of talkphotography and he had 100% good feedback, so I didn't think there was much risk.

You're right, that's fair enough. Thought it might've been an ebay buy
