Author whining noise from head it seems

seems that when i rev the engine i get a whining noise and only place i can poperly hear it is near the timing belt top pulley and near alternator any ideas ?

when theres no revs on there no noise

might be alternator whine, spray some wd40 in it, mine does it but i can only really hear it when the bonnet is up

Sounds like a fucked bearing mate or something rubbing. But if it was something rubbing you'd expect a noise even when you're not revving it, the fact it gets louder as you rev it indicates a knacked bearing, I'd be looking at the alternator as well

as above try a bit og wd40 on the belt and alternator pulley , then u can narrow it down

will do thanks , any other ideas , its not lost any power it obviously has a tapping noise due to them needing changing all this will be done in next few weeks as im taking engine out to clean gearbox and engine up

Remove the alt belt, start it, if its gone, the alt bearings are funked.

And for fuck's sake don't put any wd on the belt itself

common thing on old 8vs the bearing on the alternator, get some white grease on it and it should quieten it down a bit
