Anyone recommend any software to try to recover data? family member has lost all the data on there PC but has lots of family photos that i need to try to recover, got a price for data recovery from a company and fell off my chair
Is there any software that has a trial that i can then test and then purchase a license?

Is it visible in the BIOS.
If it doesn't show up no amount of software will help.

Try booking into Linux and seeing if it's regconised... no data recovery softwareis going to do anything if it isn't being regonised.

Does no one understand the importance of back ups these days?

Sometimes the circuit board on the hard drive may be knackered - although it is possible to replace it from one of an exact model that works, you have the added problem of the firmware being different to what's on your board despite the boards looking identical.
This is why data recovery companies charge a lot of money.

I will check in the bios tonight and see if that picks it up.

I've had the controller swap trick work once. Even then it's hit in miss. Bought an identical 2nd hand drive cheap with the same model number off ebay. Worked. Other times it's failed and I've ended up wih a few cheap spare drives
