A mate is unsure which of these cars he should buy. He's swayed by the ST as you get get 5 doors but heard they can be expensive to own all round.

Any other motors I could mention to him?

Thanks

ST's are very thirsty! I'd get the VXR personally. Think they look better. Both do sound immense with an exhaust system though

astra vxr out of those 2, purely due to fuel economy.

used to get between 16-18mpg out of my focus driving around town, 30mpg on a run driving at 50mph.

lovely cars and a great all rounder, fantastic exhaust note and really spacious, but the astra is quicker and imo is less common.

Megane R26?

Pretty good mpg (average 33mpg on mine), and not as common as the ST and VXR. Marmite looks though.
