Why is it people take offence to stuff like this.
Its like calling a pakistani and paki? which is racist but we get called Brits which is very much the same thing, or a Scot.

Paki isn't racist, its just mostly used in a derogatory way, and the PC brigade gasp and tut when you say paki. As you say, its just an abbreviation of the word, like Brit for British.
