Definite downgrade to a 3GS, get a new ROM on it, always works for a bit.

Jobless at the moment so got better things to spend money on than a phone I will be bored of in 6 months.

Search for 'launcher' on marketplace and download one of them and try some different themes and stuff. Seem to be a lot more customisable and will change the look and feel of the phone without the need to root it and use a new rom.

Dunno, never done it because there's no real need to.

xda-developers forums.
There is a need if you want the latest.
HTC says there's not enough memory to run gingerbread+sense so don't think they'll be releasing an official upgrade.

What can the "latest" do better?

Just looks a bit better, nicer interface, I'm sure there's loads behind the scenes.
I just like playing about with it.

better at making me look cool its a debate that could go on forever, but everyone with an iphone knows theyre better, and most of the time people only get other smartphones because theyre too pikey to shell out for an iphone.
there are very few people out there who buy a phone based on what chip its got inside, it usually comes down to image and cost (apart from people who buy blackberrys because they have BBM)

So the better at being cool is serious then, it's not actually better at anything.
Everyone with an iPhone has to justify spending so much, that doesn't mean they know it's better.
3GS is an ancient phone now, the 4 is comparable to the Desire, and the 4 is admittedly better in some ways.

3GS has better OS, App Store, better touch screen and looks better.
Of course some of those are a matter of opinion.

Android is better than iOS tbh.
App store, depends how you define better, more apps, yes.
Not sure about better touchscreen either.
Looks better definitely opinion, mine is that the 3GS looked massively dated even before the 4 came out and that mound of plastic is horrible.

You're not gonna win John, Apple are by FAR the best at brainwashing people. You haven't got a chance of convincing them otherwise
