Could anyone tell me how difficult it is to fit one on a 1.6 corsa, car just failed mot because of play in the steering wheel

Have you thought about changing track rod ends or the steering column mounts?

Might not be the rack.
Check the other unions to the hub.

not too hard mate just very fiddly as theres not alot of room.
Theres 4 bolts in the bay that hold it in place, theres also a bolt inside the car underdash to join steering rack to steering column. plus the 2 track rod ends
Take your time with it, haynes manual will tell you how to do it

Easier if you move the engine as well, I think dropping the gearbox mount will do it, also helps to remove the gear linkage while you're on it as that'll get in the way when you remove it from the car.
I would be checking all the other possible things before getting that involved though.

Was trying to picture when i had to do mine but there wasnt an engine in place
