Might as well just go for the biggest since you'll be robbing it anyway.

I bought a ring from a decent shop, go to ernest jones or Hsamuel and youll get a crap diamond with flaws (hence price) i spent £850 down from £1200 and got a cracking deal (know the people) .30 princess cut diamond clarity vv1 colour g with no flaws set in a SOLID platinum band. Alot of shops sell hollow bands, the one i bought weighs a bit even though its an L

Remember what ever material you go for you have to buy the same with the wedding ring else one will wear the other!

Carat is size of rock
Then you get different cuts (most popular is 'brilliant round' )
colour is set A upwards - dont go above H starts getting yellow
You clarity is how many flaws there are

Take yourself into a small old school jewelers and they can show you decent rings.
If your not bothered about the quality then just go to ernest jones as youll get more for your money.
Hope this helps.
