Are you booting to the XP CD then trying to format the drive?

So when the XP disc is in the machine it won't even boot? I admit i've not done such a downgrade before with Win7, but I'd assume as long as your machine is set to boot from CD in the bios, then you'd just have the disc in on boot, then do the press any key when it says, then carry on as you would..

fdisk the HDD, use XP disc.
Edit - BSOD sounds a bit suspect. I'd format the drive first and see where you get with XP, the BSOD might be down to a dodgy bootrecord etc

I'd still nuke the drive first with fdisk and then install XP. I'd also check that XP doesn't need storage drivers etc as that can cause problems (had it with an old Athlon system that need raid drivers loaded otherwise it'd BSOD).

OMG Gary, you're not formatting and installing XP for the sake of a dongle, surely?

Guessing you've done the usally remove, clean reg/temp and drivers directories, reinstall? Tried other ports? No updated drivers about?
If it worked then i would fuck off installing XP on it, as you could have similar problems. I'd be googling the dongle and see if there are any solutions.

Those dongles are godforsaken bits of kit. I've modded my O2 one so it uses just the inf drivers and connecting using Windows Networking
