So i lowered my car today... also new brakes all round here is a pic... Just one Question for you all... How is your ride when lowered and what set up have you got? i go down the road bouncing like a c**t lmao is this normal when you lower a car? im running SPAX springs with Apex shocks all round...

-60 mm on jamex shortened shocks. Bouncing usually means your shocks are pretty much fully compressed

Also cut the original bump stops by half... wound that make a dif ?

Yeah you need to cut the bumpstops down, but cut off the bottom half and hot the top half as the top half grips the piston.

60mm Spax springs on Apex shocks shouldn't be too bad, I used to have Apex all round and it was firm but not bouncy.

Thats exactly how i wanted my corsa to look chris with the addition of gsi rep skirts.

It's not really a problem mate but it just means that it will move laterally as it's not got the narrower end holding on to the piston.

Iv never cut my bump stops when lowering the corsa.

Never really had any issues.

Im lowered on Jamex shocks which are wank imo with apex -60mm springs and its awfull.

Purely down to the shocks i think.

i had full 60mm jamex kit, shocks and springs but it was too low at the front so got spax ssx 30mm front springs and it feels much better

make sure you got enough ground clearance for your manifold so you dont smash it like i did haha

its 50mm but looks like 60mm not sure why

quick lesson in shock absorbers.
if you imagine a standard suspension strut with a standard spring and the top of the piston is held in the topmount, which is held up by the spring. as the spring compresses, the piston is pushed downwards. inside the shock absorber, fluid is pushed out of a chamber by the piston, passing through a series of small holes that restrict the flow of the fluid, into another chamber. this effectively dampens the bounce. as the spring then expands again, it pulls the piston back up drags the fluid back into the main cylinder.

if you replace the standard spring with a shorter spring, because the piston length stays the same, it sits with the piston further down in the cylinder, meaning most of the other chamber is full and when the spring trys to compress, the piston in the damper wont allow it to. so instead of the spring absorbing the bumps, the whole car moves with the shape of the road surface

shortened shocks compensate for the fact that shorter springs are fitted and allow damping to take place

sorry if any of that is confusing/wrong. if anyone is better qualified to explain it, please do

but mate they are uprated apex...? im not running anything standard on the shocks? apart from the top half of the bump stop...

so it shouldn't be bouncy should it..?

id agree with this if they are new like.
my spax were bouncy as feck when i put them on, few days after they settled they felt fine. at first i thought it was cos they were for a tigra but fine now

yeah got them of ebay...

Shocks Apex: New Rears, Fronts was on a car then went round the black then swapped them for coilovers (so he said) but they are in good condition so they couldnt of been on the car that long...

if they havent had time to setlle in they will be stiff. without getting too sciency, the steel needs to weaken a bit. after a bit of bouncing about, they'l get softer

( its down to molecular bonds in the metal, basicly, you need to break some bonds )

okay thanks guys, im getting it tracked tomoz... so i just need to hack the annoying bounce for a few 100miles and the bounce should go away? is that what your saying?

yeah. after about a week to 2 weeks general driving it should get better, if it doesnt, get it checked over

okay mate . can u look at my pic... thats 50mm do u think its sitting to low? its more like 60mm or 65mm which is making me think something is more wrong? i cant get my finger in the gap between tire and arch well if i like bend my finger if u get me? just looks like its siting to low for 50mm imo or could be just me
