My garden fence backs onto a relatively busy road, and I'd like to put a smaller banner (1.8m x 0.6m) on fence facing the road, advertising my business.
Would I need planning for this; I see plenty of signs outside homes advertising decorators, builders etc... and it's not for a third party like some. It is for MY business...
Help pls

Yes you probably need advertising consent, but I imagine all they will do is ask you to take it down if you don't

Simon is right. Just give the planning department at your local council a phone and they should be able to tell you. Saves wasting your money putting it up only to have letters telling you to remove it.

But as soon as someone complains, or if an awkward planning officer notices it and doesnt like it then they take action.
No harm in asking, but if they do say no then just do it anyway until they do send you out a letter.
There is such a thing called an advetisement consent which is what he was asking.

Pretty sure they can, same as shop advertising has to have consent.

Strictly you have to have consent to advertise (be it on your own property or not).
Worst case they'll ask you to remove it though, I'd just stick it up and worry about problems later.
If you ring up they'll only make them aware of it.

You've mirrored my thoughts exactly Sign is only £20 for an outside banner of that size, so not the end of the world if it needs to come down I guess.
