Aprilia sr125 £500

I'm told these are the ones to look at and this is super cheap for one? It's w registration also.

Aprilia are most unreliable bikes going. Be better off buying a Chinese import, had mine since may and nothing up with it yet (it is a geared 125).

Utter horseshit, they are brilliantly reliable. I've said this a thousand times, all of my mates since 1998 have had numerous Aprilias with no engine failures at all, one stripped the teeth on the gearbox but he was trying to do wheelies with a girl on the back and it was a 1992 AF1

Gareth I've got a lovely SR125 you can buy off me if you want? I bought it with 900km on the clock and its now on 3,000 and not a mark on it.

£600 to your goodself.

the myth is becuase there so common and so many "chavs" ragg them they brake wtf do you expect

if i was to get a 2stroke bike rs125 all the way, if it does brake every part is on ebay

There are several chinese built bikes and scooters lying in the storage container at my work because we cannot get parts for them.


Couldnt even tell you the last time i had an Aprillia in for anything other than a service or brakes/tyres

Aprilia are only as unreliable as the people who ride them.

I have had various aprilia RS, RX, RM and RSVs and if you take care of them as you should they are fine. They are high maintenance (due to being 2 stroke) but when they are cared for and go well you will love every miute of it.

I seem to have a new 2 stroke in with me every week which is needing extensive top end work where they have not been run properly, poor oil has been used or they have had the tits ragged off of them. This is costing the owner in the region of £400 in parts alone! Before labour costs. Also remember that with a 2 stroke SR rings will need to be changed as part of certain service intervals.

If you want something which will reward the effort you put into it you are not far wrong with the SR, a RS or SX would be a lot more fun though.

That said!

I used a chinese piece of shit that i picked up for £450 on a 57 plate with about 650 miles on it. I put 12 months tax and test on it and ragged the shit out of it over the winter, came off of it about 4 times and i didn't touch anything on it, i just put petrol in it and the thing never missed a beat!

Always started when i wanted it to, always ran the way it should and was a good bit of fun through the country lanes and on a quick ride to work or what ever.

i then sold the thing 10 months later for almost double what i bought it for.

So if you want something hassle and maintenance free which you can get on, ride about, beat up and show no love at all then get hold of a chinese thing. There are enough floating about.

a 2 stroke 125 for some good good fun, however the costs will add up fast then go with the SR

Some cheap maintenance free 4 stroke commuting fun, get something from china/japan/Taiwan where ever they come from and you will be onto a winner.

I have a pal who could probably help you out.

He is a Ducati Specialist but also stocks a lot of import parts. He has always got hold of everything i have ever needed. I can pass you his details if you need them?

my rs50 needed a lot of looking after to ensure it didnt blow up up but then riding a 50cc bike at 60+ cant be good for it anyway

We thrashed the arse off all of ours, not one of them blew up.

Only one of us had an issue in that time, when my mate bought a cheap Cagiva Mito and it spat its guts out within one day but that's not to say they are all like that.

Sr125 is pretty much a Piaggio Typhoon so the famous Aprilia reliability "issue" ins't as factor as its a Piaggio engine.

rs125 has a lot of power for its engine size, if you don't warm them up and use good oil then they will go bang, treat them with respect and they will be fine.
I had mine ported and polished, race exhaust all dyno jetted and it was sweet, I used it for 2 years and didn't even have to change the spark plug it ran perfectly.
Mine didn't like the rain though, would bog out because the air filter would get wet due to a tiny little hole.

When i ust left school and we all had peds......i had a 2000 reg nrg liquid cooled thing and my mate had a 06 Aprillia sr which had the same engine?????? Mine did 17k in a year and half the time that was on a 70 bore kit on standard crank running 125 carb. Drank fuel but ded reliable.

sr125's are very good. my cousin had a couple that he messed around with and never had problems.
aprilias get bad rep due to the rs125's that get ragged to death by people who think theyre superbikes

All of mine hate the rain, both my 250 and 125. I just picked my brother up a SX50 with a 70 kit on it and that thing is fine in the rain, surprisingly fun as well.

I think it might have something to do with the stonking great carbs and filers on them though.

Anyway £500 is a good price, possibly too good of a price.

Check the compression on it.

130+ you are fine

100-130 the rings are on their way out. nearer 100psi and the rings are gone. nothing so bad, £60 for parts and a night in the garage will sort this out.

Under 100 there is potential top end damage. With this you are looking at £300+ in parts.

I have seen the 122 rotax (although not the same as the one in this SR) run on as little as 95. Not for long but did run.

If you have strong compression in the engine then whip it up! anything else which is wrong with it will be easy, cheap and quick to repair/sort!

i have heard gilera Runners are meant to be good fun? also head that the 172 drops into the 125 bike?

they move a bit for what they are

I've searched for gilera runners, aprilia SR/RS but alot of the heaped ones on eBay are totalled.

Get a runner alot better looking an stupidly quick with a 172 bore kit i went all out on mine spent near 2k on the bugger but pissed all over rs's dt's and cagivas just make sure you use good oil

i had runner 172 long stroke crank = 11 cc more ported bore and casings to follow thing was so fast got clocked mates sat nav 110 mph ( scary ) runners are the best biks to get but very expensive for a good one now if you want cheap get a typhhon 125 i got mine of there for 300 pound looked crap some one used a paint brush to paint it chav,

Ideally I'd like a manual to get experience before I take a bigger test. Runners seem to be pricey.

I've a typhoon 125 in my lockup needing an engine that you can have for £100
