We used a lock smith at work once who somehow broke the barrel out and then stuck a screw driver in to flip the lock inside. I'm not sure how he did it but given that UPVC doors almost always have multi-point locks, I think you will have to either drill the barrel or somehow break it out if you want to open the door without major damage.

If the multilocks are not engaged and its just been locked with the single key lock then you may be able to flex the door open... Burglars use a tool which looks like a cork screw which they wind in between the door and the frame and it flexes the door just enough to pop it open. It does leave a mark on the door/frame but only a small one.

P.S. you should be able to see if the multi-point locks are engaged by pressing in the top or bottom corner of the door (assuming it opens away from you) and if it flexes in then they're probably not engaged.

P.P.S I'm not a burglar

Would have been best to drill with a 5mm bit as 3mm is too small! Try and get the broken bit out and ram a 5 down there!

Can you remove the handle assembly?

yep can get inside and out, ive taken the handle off. just want to use the side door to get bits out instead of messing around unlocking the 3 locks on the main door

Thats an awesome tip Claire.

Our house was burgled a few years back and they used a similar trick of forcing a narrow flathead screwdriver in between the door and frame at the lock point.

Quick tap and the door popped open. Policeman who visited showed us

Moral of the story, use multipoint locking.

any decent locksmith would have charged about £40-50quid to get in and replace the lock. not worth fucking around the time it will take to drill it for that imo

This is the only cylinder I'd replace it with. In fact i'd recommend everyone reading this to replace all their PVC door locks with this cylinder. All others can be broken in less than a minute. Even if the one linked is broken, entry cannot be gained. It is the only one on the market to retain it's cam when/if broken/snapped.

If you want to freak yourself out, look on you tube or google cylinder snapping or bumping. You'll shit bricks. If some of you reading this don't have your own house yet. I'd be showing these to your parents.

You don't need to drill them at all, twat them with a hammer and they snap where the screw goes into the cylinder, especially easy if you can get the handle off. The multipoint locking is only controlled by the cylinder, as soon as you disable that the locks open with the handle.

There's a Road Wars that shows you how to open a multiple lock upvc door with a spade. Used it on my neighbours when they were locked out and it worked. Cheers Thames Valley police
