Car for sale? Dont just leave it anywhere.
This is happening in my area.
Dacorum council officers say there has been an increase in the number of cars with 'For sale' notices parked on the roads and verges and an increase in the number of complaints about the situation.
The council add that the cars are often in highly visible and potentially dangerous positions.
Working closely with the police, DVLA and Trading Standards, laws to curb nuisance highway trading will now be used to tackle illegal car sales.
A council spokesman said: "many people in dacorum who are selling their cars privately will be unaware that they may be breaking the law if they advertise on the highway without having a consent for street trading."
From now on, where officers find a car for sale on the highway, the owner will be telephoned and given 24 hours notice to move it (if this is their first warning.)
If after 24 hours it is not removed, a notice will be placed on the vehicle giving a further 24 hours garce. After that legal proceedings will be started that could lead to a fine of up to £1,000.
There will be no prior notice to sellers who have been previously warned.
