Read the spec of Davys/Rentons Corsa GSI in Redline. 151Bhp, 0-60 in 6.3 seconds!

TBs on a 1.6 is the best route, esp. when u see that SBD do a 180+ kit and then if ur brave uprate internals further and slap in 50bhp of NOS, lol bake patata scoobies

expensive and only good if you have a decent aftermarket manifold and plenum. Pesonally i would stick with drilled aribox with airfeeds and K&N panel filter. You will see good results with this. Pipercross is mostly for looks IMO

Dont know the spec, but should be ok as long as it doesnt have a stupidly lumpy cam. but it will probly drink like a fish.

Doubt you can get 220 bhp without a stupidly lumpy cam that puts the power where most people can never dream of going!

Tuning these engines depends purely on your budget, for £500 you can get a very good power increase. Or for £2500 you can get an excellent one. Depends how far you want to go.

It's a little bit lumpy until it comes on cam at around 4.5K. But that doesn't really matter cos the powerband is clean and flat all the way to 9000rpm OK, so it's not so great if all you want to do is pootle to and from Tescos, but on the open road is mucho fun

One more thing, there's a myth that TBs drink petrol. They don't - in fact at light throttle, my fuel economy is just as good if not better than the standard car. Of course, that changes when you press the pedal to the metal... But if the TBs are returning very poor fuel economy under normal driving, all it means is that the TBs haven't been set up and mapped properly. And I think that's exactly the case with patrick's engine.

Patricks engine hasn't been mapped because it doesn't have mappable engine management! Its the same with everything, BHP = Fuel, how much so depends on engine design. But it would be impossible to have a fast car driven fast that didn't drink it!

Biggest limitation is the amount is the cam lift as most modern engines run high comp to achieve greater efficency & economy. This is achieved using shallow valve pockets on the piston & limits ur choice to little more than fast road unless ur planning a rebuild.

I'm picking up my pocketed pistons today!

I've been told that you want to put 60 thousands of an inch deeper pockets in the pistons, and then take 25 thou off the head to make up the lost compression with a bit extra.

Im going to be running piper 285 cams, they apparently clear the pistons, but if you want to use vernier pullies and time them in properly then you dont want to risk contact!
