it should be 1 week for every year (once over 2 years) that you have worked there.

If you have no contract you are probably within your rights to just walk out. Probably not the best idea though, the standard is usually 4 weeks.
With regards to interviews, not much you can do other than schedule them on lunch breaks or after work. Or take days off.

As said, no contract = walking out whenever you like.
2 weeks would be reasonable though imo

Give as much notice as humanly possible I'd say (to be decent to your employer, especially if they've been good to you, which it doesn't sound like they have), although if you haven't got a contract, you could leave whenever you wanted. As it's a small business, the chances of them following up via court case etc would be very slim I would imagine.
You may also want to bare in mind that your new employer may need a previous employer reference, which could be tricky if you leave them in the lurch!

Always leave on good terms after all theybwill need to give you a reference. A months notice generally is what is accepted and that way you will probably get paid prperly too

So many variables from company to company.
If your paid monthly I'd resign the day after payday, and work very concienciously for the next month.....if they don't let you go/put on gardeners etc

1) Do not leave until you have secured another Job. Anyone who walks out of a Job in this climate is foolish.
2) As already said try to arrange interviews outside of your working hours. If you work 9-5 5 days a Week then take a day off. Also try and block interviews together into one day if possible.
3) Once you have secured a new role have a sit down with your Manager, tell them why you are wanting to leave then agree with them how much notice they would like you to Work.
4) Do not take a sick day for interviews, if you do not get the job and your current employer/colleagues find out then you could lose your current job and be left with nothing.

No contract, no notice period. It's their own fault for not giving you a contract.

Thus they will appreciate Phi 'offering' to work a notice period which can only be a good thing with regards to a reference.
