Anyone have good open rates? Any advice for improving them?

I personally don't use it but I've set it up for a couple of my customers.
One uses it to send a fortnightly newsletter, the other I have linked it to their ecommerce site so that when customers opt to receive newsletters MC is automatically notified via its API system.
Pretty good when I was testing it though, as for open rates I think as long as your email looks interesting and not some crap full of grammar and spelling mistakes then they'll want to read it/visit the website.
There are some tutorials on the MC site I believe that talk about this in depth.

I was using a multiple jpeg style mail, with html to link from certain points on the pictures.
It just got next to bugger all openings, im thinking it maybe went to spam everytime.
I then did a plain text message and got more than twice the open rate.
They just dont look very nice. :/

Use a mixture of both. For example, a product shot followed by a couple of paragraphs of text and a link to the product on your website, that kinda thing.
Bear in mind a lot of web based mail systems will block images unless the sender is "known" so if your email only comprises of images then you will get zero conversions

Ive sent a fair few thousand emails to my 500+ client list, and never made a sale from it.
I think i need to do some testing with different email style.
Ill have to check that link ed posted in another thread for how to build a html email

MC has got a good system for designing your own emails/templates and some tutorials as well from what I remember.
Maybe you could send a free porno mag to any customers that buy something via your newsletter as a special promotion?

Ive done promotions via email, but never a sale.
Business is picking up lately, had over a 10% conversion rate this week. Not getting many hits but when i do, i convert well. Never focused much attention on getting traffic, but now i need to start, so think mail chimp is my answer, as i have alot of previous customer emails from ebay

MC is very good, it has a really nice interface and quite easy/customisable, I definately recommend it.
If you don't have many subscribers it'll probably be free for you as well TBH.
I will look into using it myself soon as I recently set up an eBay shop so I can get people to subscribe to it rather than receive the crap eBay mailings.

I was under the impression if somebody makes a sale with you, you are allowed to collect there email address to send them related mails?
I sent out an email each month to all that months customers, which basically said as a valued customer, we would like to send you promotional and such like emails, if you do not wish to receive, click here to unsubscribe.
I then sent the jpeg style emails. Got plenty visit, but never a sale
