Which year? The older ones, from like 1996 take like 10 seconds to do 0-60.

L reg, 1994. not sure if its a private plate though. will need to check the log book
first plan is to strip it bare so that should bring down the 0-60 a bit

why not start with something like a 106 gti or saxo vts which will handle better, be faster and be easier to pull power from

They can take up to 11 seconds to do 0-60, even a 1.4 corsa sport would be better.
As barnshaw said look at saxo's or a 106 gti.

because this is sitting in a friends lock-up. its only £300 and he races his 318 in the kumho championship so there are plenty of spare parts lying about, not to mention stacks of track tyres with plenty of tread that he's willing to give us.

Thatl be the 1.8 16v engine i take it??
I test drove an E36 318is with the 1.9 16v engine and it was pretty slow.Needed revved and even at that it didn't liven up much.
If your wanting a BMW for track get something with a 6pot motor.
Do you have much experience of RWD??If not then i would be looking for something FWD.
That way you will get the most out of it.

if its cheap then you might as well strip it out, fire on some cheap but decent suspension and have a laugh with it then weigh it in when your bored with it
