how can i get my gear knob of and the leather around it. i got new stuff ready to put there, but have no clue how to install it..

Twist and pull the knob off, it'll take some persuading.
Your new one will have a allen key bolt on the side that tightens into the shaft when you put new one on.
The leather surround will be attahed to a plastic insert that clips to the surround. just pull it out.

Knob doesn't need to come off - you can also take the entire stick out by unclipping the bottom assembly, can't remember how from memory but that approach is just clips and you can see it. Taking the knob off is glue and pain.
