stuck with this belt tensioner. i know your supposed to fit a new one but the guy im doing it for hasnt bought one. any way of compressing it whilst its on the car?

not sure if its the same but on my 1.6 i just put the belt in place and pulled like fcuk and the tensioner moved how it should. is that what you mean? you cant get the tensioner back? spring loaded iirc

Yeah. Tryed it with both bolts on but couldn't move it far enough. Tryed with the top bolt out and the bottom in and again with the top bolt in and the bottom out. Can't compress the spring far enough by hand

some sort of pry bar or something maybe?
has it not got a little hole in for a screw driver? mine did

Yeah. Not big enough for a screwdriver though. Will try with a pry bar later

like i said mate, i had to pull like feck on mine, just say got it round the pully and then just cranked the engine over to pull it into place. kind of like when the chain falls off a bmx, you put it on the top and pedal it and it'l go on lol

Fuck cranking it over, stick it in first, drop the handbrake and rock the car back/forwards.

Is there not a bolt through the middle of the roller on the ARM of the tensioner? every x14xe I've done I just stuck a spanner on the bolt n pushed down, the tensioner arm should compress with ease.

only problem iv always had is the belt sits a little too close to the edge of it
