Anybody from there or thereabouts? I'm travelling up for an interview tomorrow and if there's something to do I'm gonna take a lady friend. Don't really want to waste her day if there's nothing of interest up there. Help please?!

I did a course there a few months back. I went to a pub called something like "the spittlebrook"' which is right next to a railway line. Was nice, with trains zooming past every 5 mins or so.
True story.

Alton Towers is nowhere near Stafford, I think the pub you're on about could be the spotgate inn which is next to the railway and you sit in old train carriages? Stafford itself is nice enough but probably not somewhere to go to with the missus for a day out particularly

Spittal Brook is right on the railway line, by the Queensville bridge, meant to be nice in there. There isn't a great lot in the town centre to get excited about though, plenty of shops if all you want to do is have a stroll around though.
