Comparing Fee's 55sec lap vs my 59sec lap

Fee - 570bhp 1350kg R32 GTR, R888 track tyres
AK - 300 and something BHP (the headers and uppipe were like a teabag..... it isnt just an excuse ), P Zero road tyres aprox 1200kg

I'm normally about 7mph quicker by the end of the straight for example!

Its amazing how much time is made/lost on the power!

Both lap times start and end at the same place (TA lap is from near the start of the pitlane wall)

GTR starts the lap at 110mph, Impreza 92mph

By the end of the pit straight the GTR has pulled out 1.28s on the Impreza.

The impreza is lighter and slower so can brake later (in theory) - I braked 43m later (but was doing 22mph slower).

By the bottom of Duffis the Impreza pulls it back to a deficit of 1.01s,

Chicane entry its back to 1.6s behind
Chicane exit 1.4s behind
Carlube entry 2.05s behind (Impreza brakes 20m deeper but 12mph slower)
Carlube exit 1.7s behind
Hairpin entry 3.9s behind (Impreza brakes 44m deeper but 24mph slower)
Hairpin exit 3.6s behind
end of lap (so sprint to start/finish) 4.5s behind

I'd say were (Fee and I, or GTR and Impreza) are pretty well matched through the corners.... I think my braking is later simply due to physics (lighter, slower - easier to stop).... its the bloody power difference that is pumping my lap time! I'd say i'm quicker/earlier on the power (read more out of control) on corner exits too! i.e at carlube the Impreza is accelerating 35m earlier than the GTR... just before apex compared to just after!

min..... I need more power but i'm 100% sure I can get a 58 with the car as is (i.e repaired exhuasts and 888's ) !

G Forces are pretty comparable (lateral) - so I'd say NEW P Zeros arent too bad.... I think Fees (from this year) are simply fucked!

i prefer steve type mods than people who buy a turbo and fit a wider air pipe from a car with a bigger turbo then an FMIC

eh?

I'm making time back in the corners.... these plots are simply showing how much difference power makes!

Changing to slicks wouldnt make the 4.5 secs up on the straights!

would mean you make even more time back in the corners to compensate though

but yes i understand you are focussing on the straights alone but then what did you expect to happen from a car with more power ?

i didn't really read it properly tbh, just stating i would prefer standard power and mods to improve handling and making car better to drive.

i don't do time attack in my cars or track days, so my opinion is based on being a road warrior

then you can fit slicks to the GTR and be back to square 1...

I'm simply showing what straight line speed can do to laps times...

both the cars are taking the corners roughly the same - so IGNORE the corners if you cant see passed them

ak the better tyres you have the better or quicker you can get through the corner thus giving you a better exit speed so that 4.5 secs might only be 2.5 secs.

you already braking later and with better tyres that would be even better still making up more time.

im sure you know this anyway tho.

once the manifolds (up pipe flexi and headers) were repaired its 350bhp.

I did 100+ laps that weekend - the car was sounding like a tractor when the data above was recorded - the exhaust manifold/headers (from engine to turbo) were leaking like aberdeen defence. It was down on power so somewhere < 350bhp enough to lose 7+mph on the straights anyway.

Chris - I hear you - but i'm still just using these graphs to compare the difference pure power can make - i,e i was already getting out of corners quicker!

well i think you need to look at power to weight than just bhp.. jimmy lapped faster at snetterton than umar and he had 400bhp more.
