I need to get myself a domain name for uni project.
After quick google there seems to be loads.
What I am after is something that will allow me to use MySQL so that I can have a database.
Must be as cheap as possible too.
suggestions?

They are cheap but not necessarily reliable.
Dom uses a couple of hosts I think which he says are cheap and good - Vidahost or TSOhost something like that?

Yup, Vida and TSO (might be worth hunting around as they usually have a 50% code around) are certainly one of the better hosts in the UK and support seems to be spot on (ie: usually i get an email reply within a few minutes, calls get answered straight away); Vooservers are another i use (cheap reseller accounts for live dev'ing), not too bad but nothing special either.
As for domains, 123-reg or namecheap for US TLDs.
And yeah i'd stay well away from 1&1, their support is like their control panels - piss poor. Can't comment about Go Daddy but i'm not sure US hosting is the way to go unless your users will be state side; cheap though like most US hosting.

Thanks to Dom's recommendations in the past I have a couple of sites on TSO hosting packages now - best I've used in a long time!
